How to play Baccarat — the basic rules

Baccarat is a popular casino game in both land-based and online casinos.

This is understandable given that Baccarat is not as well-known as high-profile card games like poker and blackjack.

However, Baccarat is a pleasant game to play and is a good method to hone your card abilities, especially when learning how to rapidly and efficiently sum hand totals.

Baccarat is a game in which the player and the banker compete against each other, therefore when you wager on Baccarat, you are really fighting against the live casino. It’s a simple game to pick up, and you don’t even need to know the rules to place a wager – but knowing what you’re doing helps!

You may also play on tables with maximum wager limits so that your early Baccarat experiences aren’t ruined.

This guide will teach you the fundamentals of Baccarat, including how to gamble and how the scoring system works. If you’re interested in learning more about how Roulette works at a live casino, check out our guide.

What is the best way to play live Baccarat?

Baccarat is a simple game in which the player and the banker compete against one other. The most common Baccarat game is called ‘Punto Banco,’ which translates to ‘Player Banker.’ This is the game we will cover in this book.

Both the player and the dealer are dealt two cards in Baccarat. Your goal is to get as near to 9 as possible with your cards. Before the cards are revealed, you lay a wager on which hand you believe will win. And, depending on the strength of the cards, the hand is won by either the player or the dealer.

In Baccarat, a tie is possible, but it is exceedingly unusual and not something that many players bet on. To begin, you will only be dealt two cards, with the potential of a third card. Later in this book, we’ll explain why you get a third card in Baccarat.

The aim is to achieve a hand value as near to 9 as possible. Whoever does this first wins the game. However, the Baccarat counting technique has several difficulties that we shall now examine.

In live Baccarat, how do points work?

Baccarat’s intricacy stems from the card values, or points. That’s because it’s not as straightforward as summing the values of your two cards and comparing them to the dealer’s.

Number cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value, whereas 10, Jack, Queen, and King are worth nothing. Aces are worth one point.

Remember, the goal is to get as near to 9 as possible. The card values are also crucial in determining the value of your hand. The most crucial thing to understand in Baccarat is that, unlike blackjack, you do not go broke. Instead, if your two cards total more than 9, you keep the right digit and discard the left.

In Baccarat, for example, you may get 3 and 9. You now have a hand of 12, but the left value has been removed. So your strongest hand is a 2.

Another example: in Baccarat, you draw the numbers 8 and 9. You now have a hand of 17, but the left value has been removed. So your real hand strength is a 7.

When is the third card dealt in Baccarat?

There is a potential that a third card will be played on either hand after all bets have been put and the two cards from the player and dealer have been turned over. This is because, similar to when you stick or hit in blackjack, there are regulations in Baccarat about when a player must acquire a third card. Unlike blackjack, however, the player has no option because the rules decide the decision for them.

In Baccarat, we’ll discuss when you’ll get a third card.

  • If the player’s hand totals 5 or fewer, he will be dealt another card. The Banker is in the same boat. The player will stand if they have 6, 7, 8, or 9.
  • Regardless of what the Player’s third card is, if the Banker’s total is 2, they will draw another card.
  • Unless the Player’s third card is an 8, the Banker will draw another card if their total is 3.
  • Unless the Player’s third card is a 0, 1, 8, or 9, the Banker draws if his total is 4.
  • If the Player’s third card is a 4, 5, 6, or 7, the Banker draws.
  • If the Banker has a 6, he draws a third card if the Player’s third card is also a 6 or 7.
  • If the Banker’s total is 7, he is declared the winner.

Betting strategies for baccarat

While certain poker games are very tactical, and blackjack is challenging, the beauty of Baccarat is that there are no techniques at all. If your starting hand value is 5 or less, you will obtain a third card, as indicated above. In varied degrees of conditions, the banker obtains a third card.

However, neither the player nor the banker has the option of playing a third card. This decision is made for them by the regulations.

While there are no Baccarat card strategies, there are Baccarat betting strategies that some individuals employ, which we shall discuss below.

Betting on Baccarat

You don’t have to gamble on your own hand in Baccarat. Although it may appear absurd, you can gamble on the dealer to win the hand! You may wager fixed bets on either yourself or the dealer winning the hand on our live Baccarat boards. You only need to put your wager and then sit back and relax.

You can, however, wager on other sections of the Baccarat table. Baccarat is played on a horseshoe-shaped table, with players betting on themselves or the dealer. Although it is possible to gamble on a tie, few people do so because the chances of a tie game are minimal.

As a result, many Baccarat players bet against their own hand! If you believe the dealer will win, you may bet on him all day. There’s nothing the player or dealer can do after the cards are dealt but sit back and wait for the outcome.

Baccarat side bets

Baccarat players frequently place side bets as they get more familiar with the game. Side bets on Player Pair, Banker Pair, Perfect Pair, Either Pair, or Big and Small are also available.

The side bets are self-evident. When the cards are flipped over, the Player Pair and Banker Pair bets win if there is a pair on the Payer or Banker side. If there is a pair between the four cards, Either Pair wins, whereas a Perfect Pair wins when there are two cards of the same suit.

If the sum of the cards given to the Player and Banker equals 5 or 6, the Big wins, whereas the Small wins if the total of the Player and Banker’s hands equals 4.

For experienced players, these side bets make Baccarat significantly more fascinating. However, they may not be appropriate for newcomers to the game who are still learning the rules. Live Baccarat might be fast-paced, but we offer tables where you can relax and get used to the action.
